Zhena Muzyka has agreed to moderate the evening.

We will have a PA system.

The focus of the evening is the Economy of Ojai and it’s future.

We are inviting people who live and work in Ojai. Trying to keep the event to 50-60 people. Over 70 it will be too crowded.

5 Candidates Participating
City Council Candidates: Chris Gardner & Suza Francina

Mayoral Candidates: John Johnston, Paul Blatz & Severo Lara
Candidates will be given 3 minutes each to introduce themselves starting at 6:15

Zhena will ask each Candidate 2 questions that have been chosen ahead of time. The candidates will get the questions Thursday October 13th so you will have time to prepare. You will have 3-5 minutes to answer each question. Zhena is welcome to ask a quick follow up if she feels you touched on something that should be expanded on.

One on One Mixer to start at 7:30 (hopefully). I’d like there to be at least one hour where people can talk to the candidates in a casual setting.

SEPTEMBER EVENTS

Candidate Forum: The Ojai Valley Chamber of Commerce and Ojai Board of REALTORS are co-sponsoring a Candidates Forum at the Soule Park Golf Course Banquet Room on Thursday evening, September 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. Bret Bradigan will be the moderator. There will be a table at the entrance to the Banquet Room with political marketing materials and giveaways.

The audience will be given note cards on which they can write questions to be submitted. The Forum Committee will compile the questions, eliminating duplicates and pass these to Bret Bradigan.

At 7 p.m., the event will begin with a short welcome from the Chamber. Bret Bradigan will then read the protocol for the evening, and then each candidate will each be given two (2) minutes for an opening statement.

After opening statements, Bret will begin asking each candidate one of five questions given to candidates prior to the forum.
All candidates will answer each question in turn. The opportunity to answer first will be rotated so each candidate will go first once. Each candidate will have only two (2) minutes for each answer. Candidates will see a yellow card when they have 15 seconds left, and a red card when their time is up. Time limits will be strictly enforced. There will be no rebuttals.

Once the five previously supplied questions have been answered, Bret will ask the questions from the audience. The same two minute rule will apply.

At 8:50, the Q/A session will end and each of candidate will be given two minutes for a closing statement. Candidates may use this time to rebut any statement(s) made during the Q/A session, but they will have only two minutes.

The Forum will end at 9 p.m. Candidates may stay after to speak directly to audience members if they wish.
Coffee, water and cookies will be available.
